Orpingtons are a one of the best breeds for new chicken owners, and for families with small children. They are robust, large birds that have a beautiful lavender plumage that keeps them warm during extremely cold temperatures.

They are great dual-purpose bird, with roosters weighing in around 10lbs and hens weighing around 8lb. The hens are fair layers, which produce around 200 light brown, pink-tinted eggs per year.

We have English Lavender Orpingtons, which means they tend to have looser fitting feathers, shorter bodies, and shorter legs. They are broad across the back and have a more rounded shape compared to "American" Orpingtons.
